Black Sheep Group Independent technology lab

Start with what if. End with what works.

We build things differently. Independent software, AI systems, developer tools, research, and experiments: dreamed up, tested properly, and improved by what we learn.

Kenzy

AI / Smart Home / Voice

Whole-home AI that listens, understands, and responds wherever you are.

Accepted
A voice assistant is a cloud account plus a separate speaker in every room, none of which know about the others.
Asked
Why can't the whole house be one assistant, running on your own network, that knows which room you're in and who's talking?
BSG / P-002 Alpha

Zubifi

BSG / P-004 Beta

QueryCommander

Developer Tools / Databases

A modern SQL workspace that lives in your browser.

Accepted
A database client is a heavy desktop install that has to be configured, secured, and kept up to date separately on every machine.

Why not one SQL workspace in the browser, hosted where your data already lives, with access controlled in one place?

How we work

The projects share no market. They share a method.

  1. Dream

Start with what the software could be, not how it has always worked. Most of our projects begin with "what if it didn't have to be like this?"

  2. Test

Build it and measure it: benchmarks, prototypes, pilots with real users. Until it's been tested, an idea is still a guess.

  3. Learn

Keep what works, drop what doesn't, and write down why. What we learn goes into the next version, or the next project.

Where things stand

Not every project goes through every stage. Experiments start in Labs.

  1. ConceptAn idea with a problem statement and not much else. —
  2. LabBeing built and tested in-house. May change or disappear. —
  3. AlphaWorking, in limited hands. Rough edges expected.
  4. BetaUsable and public. Still settling.
  5. ProductReleased and maintained.
